The Career in Education Program was developed through collaboration between the Saint Paul Public Schools and the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers. The goals of the program are as follows:

Develop clear expectations for job performance as articulated in the Standards of Effective Teaching.

Provide mentoring support and evaluation for probationary teachers.

Support the professional development of teachers who are meeting standards.

Develop a clear process for working with teachers who are not meeting standards.

Foster a climate of collaboration between administrators and teachers.
Achievement of Tenure Program
The Achievement of Tenure Program is an in-depth support for new teachers designed to familiarize them with the key components and strategies to be effective in their specific field. Probationary teachers will:
- Be observed and evaluated by an administrator at least twice per year
- Be provided with a mentor for the first 2 years
- Participate in the appropriate three year professional development

Professional Development for Tenured Staff
Tenured teachers have three options for professional development and assessment:
- A team professional development plan (PDP)
- An individual PDP
- An annual observation and evaluation by an administrator
Teacher Assistance Program
The Teacher Assistance Program is a support program for tenured teachers experiencing serious instructional difficulties. It provides a process of support and assessment based on an improvement plan.
