Jan Spencer de Gutiérrez

I have worked in Saint Paul Public Schools for over 20 years in a number of capacities – visual arts, theatre, elementary classroom and English as a Second Language teacher; Curriculum Coordinator visual art teacher and inquiry-focused curriculum designer/teacher at Museum Magnet; Arts Teacher on Special Assignment and currently Supervisor, Visual and Performing Arts K-12.

As a member of The Center for Professional Development, I serve by supervising and facilitating implementation of kindergarten through twelfth grade district-wide arts programming; assist visual and performing arts educators; design and implement arts professional development and programs, standard, curriculum and assessment work and am a liaison for community and school partnerships.

Collaborating with community organizations, such as Perpich Center for Arts Education, Ordway Center, East Side Arts Council, Minnesota Orchestra, Black Label Movement dance company, Soul Touch Productions and College of Visual Arts, for example – allows the district to expand, deepen and integrate arts learning for students and implement efficacious instructional practices for ultimate student achievement and gains

Outside of SPPS leadership work groups and other collaborative structures, I serve on behalf of SPPS as a member of Ordway Center’s Educational Advisory, Board Member of Project SUCCESS – a youth development nonprofit organization working in our junior high schools – and a former North Central Regional Adviser to Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education Program.
