Student propaganda poster search and analysis

Lesson:

1.      Divide students into groups of 4.

2.      Each group gets a copy of all the propaganda posters.  As the groups are working, display color transparency copies on the overhead as some copies are not very clear.

3.      Each group should work together to discover the messages being sent to the reader and detect the different propaganda tools used for each poster.  As the groups are working, assign each group one poster to discuss and present to the rest of the class.

4.      For homework, have the students do their own search for propaganda posters from World War I that have not been used in the lesson.  Each poster needs to be analyzed using the five questions provided and printed to turn in.

Materials Needed:

10 World War I propaganda posters

            Propaganda poster chart

            Propaganda poster search analysis questions
