The Career in Education Program was developed through collaboration between the Saint Paul Public Schools and the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers. The goals of the program are as follows:

• Develop clear expectations for job performance as articulated in the Standards of Effective Teaching.
• Provide mentoring support and evaluation for probationary teachers.
• Support the professional development of teachers who are meeting standards.
• Develop a clear process for working with teachers who are not meeting standards.
• Foster a climate of collaboration between administrators and teachers.

Achievement of Tenure Program

The Achievement of Tenure Program is an in-depth support for new teachers designed to familiarize them with the key components and strategies to be effective in their specific field. Probationary teachers will:

• Be observed and evaluated by an administrator at least twice per year
• Be provided with a mentor for the first 2 years
• Participate in the appropriate three year professional development
